Guild Wars 2 April Feature Pack Brings New Traits, Wardrobe Changes and Much More

ArenaNet’s Guild Wars 2 is seemingly the MMORPG that just keeps on giving. The developer has outlined a host of nw content and changes incoming with its new April Feature pack, with 40 new Traits, a revamped system to streamline learning them and changes to the wardrobe system (which you can check out here). The developer has also sought to change the Runes and Sigils system along with providing some new balances.

For the Traits, ArenaNet wrote that, “As part of this approach to making traits more approachable, we’ve pushed back the level at which the different trait tiers unlock for new characters in order to better pace the early game experience and to add more meaningful character progression from levels 30 to 80. Starting with this feature pack, new characters will unlock the adept tier at level 30, the master tier at level 60, and the grandmaster tier at level 80.”

“All major traits will be locked on characters created after the feature pack. All existing characters created before this feature pack will have all previously existing major traits unlocked.

“We want it to be much easier to experiment with and learn new builds as you explore the world of Tyria. Major traits will now be unlocked via traits guides, a new in-game item. Double-clicking on a trait guide will unlock its associated trait. You can find trait guides by completing specific content in the world, like story dungeons, minidungeons, WvW, personal story, specific bosses, and discovering certain areas on the world map.”


BioWare Austin Has Several Unannounced Projects In The Works

Bioware Austin, the developer behind Star Wars: The Old Republic, apparently has several new projects in the works that have yet to be announced. This information comes from a job posting that was posted by the development company earlier this week. The job description for the role of Senior Software Engineer reads:

“BioWare Austin is home to the critically acclaimed and award winning Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO. After the hugely successful addition of its Free 2 Play option and the highly praised launch of space PVP with the Galactic Starfighter expansion, the Austin team continues driving forward with SW:TOR and is also hard at work on several unannounced projects. Apply today and learn about the exciting opportunities at our Studio.”

Additionally there is a post for a Usability Tester:

“BioWare is hiring temporary game testers. Our ideal candidates have played both online games such as MMORPGs (Star Wars the Old Republic, DC Universe Online) and action games (Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, Infamous).”

The descriptions of the above roles both allude to the fact that there are several titles in production from BioWare, and the other games listed in the tester snippet could potentially hint at the specific types of games we can expect.


The Elder Scrolls Online creative director quits to join Gearbox

“This Could Be You” reads the above image that was used to advertise new positions at Gearbox—but it’s not you, in this instance, it’s Paul Sage. Who’s Paul Sage? Paul Sage was the creative director of The Elder Scrolls Online, but he’s left just, mere weeks after the console launch of that game, to join Gearbox.

Obviously TESO isn’t suddenly going to collapse and shut up shop, but it’s not an encouraging sign for the MMO that recently went free-to-play. As Eurogamer note, TESO’s lead gameplay designer Nicholas Konkle left the team back in April, to join LoL developers Riot Games.
Is Sage going to be working on Borderlands 3? And if so, does that mean it will feature more MMO elements? We could speculate all day. Meanwhile, TESO continues to be updated—and it’s come on a long way since launch.

Camelot Unchained beta delayed, possibly until next year

The first beta test for the crowdfunded MMO Camelot Unchained, which was originally supposed to take place in August, may not actually happen until sometime next year. In a pre-recorded message that aired on Twitch late last week, City State Entertainment founder Mark Jacobs blamed the delay on the loss of a senior programmer, who resigned from the studio almost immediately after his lengthy hiring process had been completed.

“After many months of not only searching for the right guy, but [also] negotiations, we thought we had the right guy. On Monday when I did the update, I spoke to him. Everything was great. Monday evening, after the update, I spoke to him. Everything was great,” Jacobs explained.
The next day, Jacobs’ wife underwent surgery, and so he was disconnected from what was happening at the studio. But things went sideways on Wednesday.
“I received an email from the programmer, Kevin, that said that he had received an offer that he just couldn’t turn down. One of those offers that come along once in a lifetime,” he continued. “As you can imagine, I was a bit perturbed. Upset. Disappointed. Mad.”
To his credit, Jacobs appears about as magnanimous about the situation as anyone could reasonably expect, but the surprise loss left the studio with no choice but to push the beta. “We knew that it was going to be tight with the beta,” he continued. “We thought with somebody as talented as he is, that we’d have a much better shot at it… Right now, frankly, I can’t say with a straight face that we have any shot at making beta at the end of August.”
Jacobs told Massively Overpowered that at this point, it’s possible the beta won’t begin until sometime next year. “When you are working with a small team, the loss of a couple of people can make a huge difference, so it would be foolish for me to say that nothing bad could possibly happen over the next few months,” he said. “On the other hand, things are moving along nicely for the team size we have, and we are pretty confident that we can get an awful lot done before the end of the year.”
This isn’t the first time that Camelot Unchained, which was Kickstarted to the tune of $2.2 million in 2013, has run into a snag: The alpha test was originally slated to run in August of 2014, but was eventually pushed into early 2015.
